# Stake

"Stake" is defined as the process of locking up assets in order to obtain rewards or earn interest. These assets can be fungible tokens or non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

NFT owners can contribute to the Adanimals global economy by taking their Adanimals out of circulation and staking them. Such owners will be rewarded for their loyalty with $ANIMAL and $CARE tokens.

Staking NFTs will be available on day one of [**Genesis NFTs INO**](/ido-and-ino/genesis-nft-ino.md). Owners will be collecting $CARE rewards shortly after.

NFT owners can stake their pets and still use them for gameplay identity in the [**minigames**](/adanimals-ecosystem/minigames.md). The pets will never leave the owners' wallets. NFT owners can sell their pets while being staked, but any reward not claimed at the time of sale will be forfeited forever.
